Notice a change without living on alert
A brief, calm check of your surroundings can help you identify available choices.
The idea
Awareness can be a brief check rather than a demand to watch everyone continuously. Notice behaviour and changes, without treating someone’s appearance or identity as a threat.
A small practice
In a familiar public setting, identify one exit and one place where assistance may be available. Then return your attention to what you were doing. You do not need to memorise every detail.
Consider your options
If someone’s behaviour feels intrusive, you may choose to change position, seek assistance or leave when that is workable. You do not have to prove their intention before choosing more space.
Reflect
What would make it easier to access support here? The setting also has a responsibility to make help visible and available.
